Librarian's Choice, A Text-Based Role-Playing Game

Librarian's Choice is a text-based role playing game that focuses on the history of art and its impact on the society.

The educational objectives of the game is to teach players how impactful artists, art styles, and art pieces shape our modern societies and the effect it has on us as individuals – we want to demonstrate the power that small changes can have on peoples' lives.

The Storyline

The protagonist has recently been promoted to head librarian, and thus must take on the duties of providing recommendations for visitors and determining which books would be displayed.

Alongside this, a nefarious faction is attempting to orchestrate a theft using information from the library and it is up to the protagonist to identify them and aid undercover detectives in putting a stop to this.

Core Mechanics

  1. Dialogue The player will be able to select dialogue options which will affect the actions of certain characters.

  2. Achievements The player is able to collect achievements through making unique decisions and reaching certain milestones in the game.

  3. Book Selection The player is able to select which books are placed in the library and decide which books to present to visitors upon their request.

  4. Endings Various choices will result in different endings for the player.

  5. Victory Conditions Make it to the end of all the chapters. However, all endings are not created equal, and better outcomes require careful decision making.

  6. Loss There are no traditional game deaths, only what could be termed as 'bad endings' by the player.

  7. User Interface The game will make use of standard click or tap interactions built into the platforms Twine already supports.
